Running
For as long as I can remember, I’ve enjoyed running – the simple act of going somewhere, quickly, under my own power. In fifth grade, there was “The Mile”, a daunting physical fitness test at the end of the year. Though it was dreaded by many I looked forward to it (but was disappointed when the day came and I happened to be wearing jeans).
In middle school (6th grade) I followed my older brother’s lead and joined the cross-country team and continued that sport until college.
In high school I also added track events: mainly the 1600 meters, 400 meters and 400 meter relay. I briefly did the 200 m and 800 m but didn’t do as well with those events.
Nowadays I run to stay in shape for soccer, to get out and unwind and to enjoy nature. Trail runs in the nearby hills are the most fun but when time is short the local middle school track or paved pedestrian paths suffice. If conditions are right my Luna Sandals offer a fun minimalist change of pace.
